Direct Support Professional - Weekend

Location: Montgomery County, NY
FLSA: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Residential Manager/Family Support Manager/Habilitation Coordinator

Physical Requirements: Lifting: Ability to lift and transfer consumers, lift 50lbs, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, kneeling, squatting, twisting. Ability to carry out SCIP RR techniques is required.


Hours of Work: This is a Part-time weekend position, requiring two 12 hour shifts, day or awake night. Total work hours not to exceed 24 hours in a weekend. Exact schedule is dependent upon the assigned residence. Holiday work is required if holiday falls on a weekend.


Job Summary: Ensure all daily care and supports are provided to persons with disabilities in a person-centered manner so that each person lives a life they love. Work collaboratively to ensure assigned supports are completed to ensure health, safety and quality of life.


Pay: $25.50/Hr


Job Qualifications:

  • Valid NY State driver's license
  • All candidates must be fluent in English able to read and write the English language
  • For all Awake Night Floater positions, the highest training for a DSP will be required upon availability of the Charge Training Class after the initial training concludes.
  • Travel is required, employee must have reliable transportation available


Major Responsibilities:

  1. Provide Individual Support- ensure that supports are provided with consideration of each person's individualized routines and procedures
  2. Financial- assist individual's with purchases including choice, expense, responsibility, and planning
  3. Health and Nutrition- ensure that medical needs are arranged for the consumer with as much independence from the consumer as possible
  4. Regulatory- ensure continuity and security for each consumer
  5. Follow agency, state, and federal regulations in order to maintain compliance
  6. Report all incidents, including allegations of abuse and neglect and Serious incidents, to the Manager immediately upon discovery
  7. Training/Programmatic- support and train individual's in respect to fire evacuation and incidents of abuse through natural teaching moments
  8. Community Relations- Ensure that persons with disabilities participate in the life of the community
  9. Professionalism- uphold agency Values
  10. Be positive on focus and commentary at all times while at work. Personal discussions of a negative nature must not take place at work. The atmosphere needs to be pleasant and supportive to everyone
  11. Environmental- provide a safe, secure, and comfortable home atmosphere
  12. Report safety hazards immediately to direct supervisor
  13. Scheduled Hours- Attend Residential Staff meetings as scheduled on a monthly basis
  14. Attend training and individual specific in-services as necessary
  15. Staff are at no time to leave an individual without proper coverage or relief, or in an unsafe condition due to staffing needs
  16. Personal Outcome Measures- Understand supports we have provided relative to the 21 Personal Outcome Measures
