Distinguishing Features of the Class: This position involves responsibility for the provision of nursing services and supervision of nursing practice to assure safe, effective and efficient comprehensive nursing care in homes, clinics, schools and other community agencies and events. Any employee in this case will supervise the public health nursing programs with the county health department under the general supervision of the Public Health Director. Supervision is exercised over the work of assigned public health professional nursing staff, health educator or auxiliary staff. A Supervising Public Health Nurse is involved in assigned program administration and/or program budget development and monitoring and/or quality assurance initiatives, and/or acting as advocate and liaison for constituents and/or policy development. Incumbent will act as the Director of Patient Services. The incumbent does related work as required.
Residency Requirement: Applicants must be a legal resident of Montgomery County or a Contiguous County.

Minimum Qualification: 
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master’s Degree in Nursing and two (2) years of professional nursing experience in public health or community health, and one (1) year of supervisory experience as a nurse.; or
B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and three (3) years of professional nursing experience in public health or community health, and one (1) additional year of supervisory experience as a nurse;
Special Requirements For Acceptance of Applications:
Licensure and current registration to practice as Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license at the time of appointment. Said license must be maintained in good standing throughout employment, free from suspension, revocation, or serious driving infractions that would impair the employee’s ability to perform the essential functions of the position
Must complete 15 hours of continuing education in public health and management related topics approved by the New York State Department of Health within the first year of employment in this title.
