The Free Family-Friendly Matinées? Cinema portion continues with Newsies: The Broadway Musical! Mingling the Waters 200 Years on the Erie Canal at The Arkell Museum
Mingling The Waters: 200 Years On The Erie Canal March 1, 2025 through December 30, 2025 ?the Erie Canal exerted no mean effect upon the Nation. Its influence spread beyond and strove to efface our local boundaries and to make of the loose confederation of States and territories one united people. The Erie Canal Centennial Celebration, 1928 Completed in 1825, the Erie Canal was a triumph of early engineering that carried an unprecedented volume of traffic 363 miles from Albany to Buffalo, influencing settlement, agricultural and industrial choices and patterns in New York State and beyond. Throngs of people traveled the Canal out of curiosity and pleasure, reaching previously inaccessible places, and documenting their experiences and impressions in letters, journals, and travelogues. Artists and writers found ready subjects at every bend, from quiet landscapes to bustling canal towns. This exhibition recognizes the bicentennial anniversary of the completion of the Canal, shares recollections of early travelers, and celebrates the continued importance of the Erie Canal and Mohawk River. This exhibition is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. S. Morning Yoga with Mary Ann Zicarelli, Instructor at Paul Nigra Center
This class is designed to welcome all levels to the mat. The pace is mindful, which gives students the opportunity to connect their breath to each pose. Holding poses for several breaths allows students to find that deeper connection of the mind, body and breath. The cues also help the most seasoned student with refined alignment, which ultimately brings more space, strength and peace into their practice. This class begins with embodiment movements that help warm up the joints, muscles and connective tissue, which prepares the body to gain more flexibility, mobility and strength. Classes are prepared with a theme or peak so that students can feel connected to the process and purpose of each experience on the mat. *Members receive a 20% discount. The 518 Concert Series Presents: Neon Avenue at The Glove Theatre
The Glove Theatre's 518 Concert Series is looking forward to presenting Neon Avenue!!! Born from the depths of the 2020 Pandemic, this group of Capital Region musicians came together for what felt like necessity. With the stalling of the music industry, a creative outlet was needed for these 5 individuals. What was first a casual get together playing some dead tunes quickly escalated into a singular goal of putting together a live stream. Something special happened during these early sessions and a ?one-and-done? livestream turned into something much more. In less than 2 years as a band, Neon Avenue has made quite a stir in the ever popular (and saturated) Gratefully-inspired tribute scene, growing quickly to become one of the bigger draws in the Upstate NY capital region Dead scene. The band brings a fresh take on the Grateful music that you know and love while placing an emphasis on improvisation, unique setlist construction, deeper cuts into the grateful songbook and a primal energy that they draw from their loyal fans during live performances. With past performances at Lark Hall, Putnam Place, Unihog, Rustic Barn and many other headlining shows around the Capital region, the word has gotten out about this band. Composed of veteran musicians from numerous local groups like Formula 5, Slipknot! (80's/90's Dead tribute), Stone Revival Band, Knot Dead, Jocamo, and more, this combination of players has set out to push the boundaries of the standard Dead tribute. The group of Joe Davis (Formula 5), Mike Urbon (Knot Dead), Mike Cassels (Stone Revival Band, Jocamo, Knot Dead), Mike McDonald (Formula 5, Knot Dead) and Doug Klein (Slipknot, Robanic, Knot Dead) were re-inspired playing the music of the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia Band, Ratdog, and others. While existing in an endless sea of 1970's era Grateful Dead tributes, this group strives to separate itself with a dedication to unique arrangements of setlists and song segues, utilizing extended improvisation, playing deeper cuts from all eras of the Dead, JGB, and Ratdog songbook. Playing music of The Dead -- but Different! Come ready to dance -- the dance floor will be open! https://ticketstripe.com/518neonavenue

Michele Gabrielson, history teacher and historical interpreter, will discuss the ?muse of the Revolution?, Mercy Otis Warren; one of the first female historians of the United States, who used her poetry, prose, and satirical whit to champion the Revolutionary cause. Fort Plain Museum Presents: The Fort Stanwix Flag Legend No More
Cost is $5 Nom-members/FREE for Members The Museum is located at 389 Canal Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339 On August 3 1777 the Officers of the Garrison of Fort Stanwix made a ?Continental Flag?. This talk will trace the story, and the asserting that the flag was a Stars and Stripes Flag which followed the Congressional Flag Resolution of June 14th, 1777, and was in fact the place where the official flag of the United States first flew in Battle. Since 1927 there were question with this story and it had been relegated by Historians to the status of ?Legend? (a true store but the facts messed up) Joseph Robertaccio, with a lot of patience, and a lot of luck, was able to trace the story, and find contemporary illustrations of the flag in the Clinton Sullivan Campaign. The raise of the Internet and the development of online repositories has allowed Robertaccio to use techniques born in code breaking to examine the meaning of the phrase ?Continental Flag? in a way that no previous historian was able to use. Beyond this, his work took him into the lore of the origins of the Flag of the United States, and it appears the many of the Legends of the Stars and Stripes are true?? Come join us on a wild ride through history with a touch of archeological analysis, and the discovery of a new, forgotten eyewitness source to the events of August 3, 1777..... Thank you for Supporting the Fort Plain Museum & Historical Park, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. 2025 Conference The American Revolutionary War Conference 250 featuring Pulitzer Prize Winning Author Rick Atkinson is May 29-June 1, 2025.
