Assistant Material Handler

Position Description
This vital position within our Supply Chain system supports our Inventory Control and Production Teams by identifying raw materials necessary for production jobs, decreasing material losses, eliminating excess scrap in the process, and ensuring finished goods and current internal processes are adequately maintained and used to track incoming materials and proper application of materials to jobs being processed on the shop floor. The primary responsibility is ensuring the efficient movement of materials throughout the warehouse, working with Production, loading and unloading material, moving to and from storage, and maintaining proper inventory levels.
 
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 1st Shift, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
Payroll Day:  Paid Weekly on Thursdays
FLSA:  Hourly position, eligible for OT
Starting Base Pay:  $20 - $22 / hour
Paid Time Off:  Generous Package
Benefits:  Eligible 1st of the Month following Date of Hire
 
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Move raw materials and finished products between different areas of the manufacturing plant using industrial equipment like forklifts, hand trucks, and cranes.
  • Receive incoming materials from suppliers, count and inspect them to ensure they meet specifications, and record them in inventory systems.
  • Package and label finished goods according to customer requirements or regulatory standards and prepare them for shipment.
  • Verify inventory levels and notify supervisors of shortages or excesses to prevent production delays or stockouts.
  • Clean and maintain material handling equipment and storage areas to ensure safety and operation.
  • Daily maintenance of the various raw material storage locations throughout the facility. This includes ensuring materials are in the correct physical location, making a note of them, and notifying the Inventory Coordinator of any physical discrepancies or damage to material.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled cycle counts of both raw materials and finished goods.
  • Collaborate with production and logistics teams to plan and schedule material movements and ensure timely delivery of materials to production lines.
  • Follow safety protocols and wear protective gear when handling hazardous materials or operating heavy machinery.
  • Identify opportunities to improve material handling processes, reduce waste, and suggest solutions to supervisors.
  • Uphold quality and ethical standards in all interactions with colleagues, customers, and suppliers.
  • Assists and learns from the Inventory Coordinator the proper application of materials to jobs within the company’s ERP system, SyteLine. 
Required Experience / Education
  • Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in the inventory process
  • Strong math skills and ability to apply accordingly.
  • Must possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Must be highly dependable, driven to learn, and able to adapt quickly to changing work instruction
Preferred Experience / Education
  • Prior inventory experience in retail or manufacturing
  • Previous experience operating a forklift
  • Prior experience reading and interpreting blueprints
  • Prior experience working with Syteline
Physical Requirements:  Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and bend, and regularly wear safety PPE properly, such as respirators, hearing and eye protection, and safety footwear. Required to be standing for extended periods. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently.
