Bluebird Trail Walk #1 – “The Early Bluebird Gets the Nest Box” at Landis Arboretum

Location: Meet at the Welcome Center
Registration: Members: Individuals $5, families $15; Non-members: $15, family $25
Join us from 1:00 to 3:30 PM to walk Landis' Bluebird Trail.
Our Bluebird Trail consists of 40+ nest boxes. These boxes are spread over a large area. The three species of birds that typically use our nest boxes are Eastern Bluebirds, Tree Swallows and Northern House Wrens. Our goal will be to visit most of the nest boxes and see each of these species up close. Along the way we’ll talk about birds, how to attract them to nest boxes, and anything else that crosses our minds. Please be prepared for a 2.5-mile, 2+ hour hike, with some small hills. Dress for the weather. Waterproof footwear and clothing appropriate for hiking through tall grass are recommended. You may also want to bring binoculars, camera, water and a snack.
Depending on the springtime weather, our bluebirds start laying eggs mid-April to early May and the first batch of fledglings is expected mid-May to early June. The swallows and wrens typically start a week or two behind the bluebirds. Class limited to 5 participants.
Preregistration required: contact us at info@landisarboretum.org to register. You will be contacted to confirm registration or that you have been placed on the wait list.
