I hope families, students, and visitors come out to experience it, learn from it, and celebrate what makes Montgomery County and our canal towns so special.? ?This voyage is about more than retracing history ?it?s about reexamining it,? said Brian Trzeciak, Executive Director, Buffalo Maritime Center. ?As we honor the 200th anniversary of the canal, we?re committed to telling a holistic story that commemorates its achievement, while also acknowledging its impact on the Haudenosaunee and others.? Handcrafted by nearly 200 volunteers and students inside the Longshed at Canalside in Buffalo, the *Seneca Chief* stands as a powerful symbol of craftsmanship, collaboration, and New York State?s enduring maritime legacy. On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, the *Seneca Chief* began its 33-day Bicentennial Voyage commemorating Governor DeWitt Clinton?s historic trip. The boat will travel 500 miles along the Erie Canal and Hudson River, visiting 28 communities and concluding with a grand arrival in New York City on October 26, 2025. The *Seneca Chief* will arrive in Riverfront Park at 143 Church St., Canajoharie, on Sunday, October 12 at 3 p.m. where the public is invited to participate in free, family-friendly events, ceremonies, and educational programs. Local Schedule of Events for Canajoharie: 3 p.m. Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief Arrives 3:30 p.m. Welcome Ceremony 4 to 6 p.m. Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief Visitor Experience Open to the Public The *Seneca Chief* will arrive in Riverlink Park at 2 Front St., Amsterdam, on Monday, October 13 at 3 p.m. where the public is invited to participate in free, family-friendly events, ceremonies, and educational programs. Local Schedule of Events for Amsterdam: 3 p.m. Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief Arrives 3:30 p.m. Welcome Ceremony 4 to 7 p.m. Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief Visitor Experience Open to the Public While docked, the *Seneca Chief* will transform into a floating museum, welcoming visitors aboard to explore recreated cabins, historical artifacts, and interactive exhibits. Visitors will learn about the canal?s cultural, economic, and environmental significance ?including the contributions of Indigenous communities. ?This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see history come to life,? said Montgomery County Executive Pete Vroman. ?The Erie Canal helped shape our communities, and the *Seneca Chief* voyage is a reminder of just how important that legacy remains today. At each stop, ceremonies will include planting an Eastern White Pine tree ?the Great Tree of Peace in Haudenosaunee culture ?and adding local canal water to a barrel aboard the *Seneca Chief?. This water will later be used to nourish the final tree planted in New York City, symbolically uniting the state. About the Bicentennial Voyage The Bicentennial Voyage Visitor Experience is made possible through the generous support of M&T Bank, the Title Program Partner. M&T is helping this historic commemoration reach communities across New York State, with financial contributions and volunteer support. ?We?re proud to support the Buffalo Maritime Center and the Bicentennial Voyage in honoring the Erie Canal?s lasting influence,? said Tracy Woodrow, Chief Administrative Officer & WNY Regional President, M&T Bank. The Martin Book Prize winner will deliver an address, followed by an opportunity for audience questions. The program will feature tributes from family and friends who cherished Jim and his lasting influence. About James Kirby Martin ?Historians have debated and argued about the causes of the American Revolution for nearly two centuries.? Jim Martin wrote this in 1973 as the first line of the preface to his first book, Men in Rebellion. ?More properly, perhaps,? he continued, ?students of the Revolution have sought to identify and explain . . . the reasons why provincial Americans, nurtured for over a century and a half under the seemingly benevolent guidance of Great Britain, threw off attachments to British sovereignty.? Of course it is now two and a half centuries since the Revolution changed the course of world history, but Jim?s observation remains every bit as germane to historians today. He spent a career pursuing those very questions. His career was indeed distinguished. His interest in the Revolution emerged during his undergraduate years at Hiram College and sharpened in his doctoral studies under Merrill Jensen at the University of Wisconsin. He moved through the ranks from assistant professor to professor at Rutgers University, where he also served as vice president for academic affairs before moving to the University of Houston. There he completed his teaching career as Hugh Roy and Lilli Cranz Cullen University Professor of History. As a scholar, he was formidable. The author, co-author, or editor of a dozen books and scores of articles, chapters and papers, Jim?s work derived from rigorous scholarship. He believed in evidence?the primary sources?and interpretations based on solid foundations; he had little patience for academic fads and history driven by ideological zealotry or preconceived conclusions. Americans have so often looked at the Revolution through the lens of modern groups or political agendas, but Jim Martin insisted that an honest effort to understand the past compelled the historian to search for the perspectives of those who actually confronted events?not knowing what the future held. He was an honest historian. Jim?s interests in the Revolution were expansive, and titles such as Men in Rebellion, A Respectable Army, Forgotten Allies, Citizen Soldier, and Benedict Arnold have stood the test of time and established his reputation as an authority on the military and political aspects of the revolutionary struggle. His work has won several important awards. The academy seldom produces historians who do so much so well. It was this consistent performance that saw him receive a senior fellowship at the Smith National Library at Mount Vernon and prestigious visiting professorships at The Citadel and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Martin was a generous and engaging individual. He enjoyed collaborating with other scholars and over the years he worked with some of the best in the profession. He delighted in taking history beyond the academy, and over the years Jim gave his time to board memberships and advisory roles at Fort Ticonderoga, the Fort Plain Museum, and the Oneida Indian Nation. He presented frequently before learned societies and was a riveting speaker, but he took special pleasure in speaking to local historical organizations and such groups as the Mount Vernon Ladies Association, the Society of the Cincinnati, the DAR, and the SAR (of which he was a proud member). Jim even had a ?starring role? as Colonel Moses Hazen in the film Benedict Arnold: Hero Betrayed. He was nothing if not versatile.

The Glove Theatre's 518 Concert Series Presents: Chrome Horse: The Bob Dylan Tribute
The Glove Theatre looks forward to welcoming Chrome Horse: The Bob Dylan Tribute to our stage! Drew Gabbert, Texas-based veteran musician, serves up an authentic Dylan experience with a repertoire that spans six decades of material. Gabbert offers up a mysterious ability to embody the many voices of Dylan with accuracy and reverence ? as if singing through a hall of mirrors. Close your eyes and you?ll be thoughtfully carried through the young man in old man?s clothes, drifting past the country croon, and held firmly by the elder statesman. These eras with their ancient muses are captured by Gabbert fluently. It must be said, by deliberately eschewing present day technology and electronics, the musical presentation remains intact and precise. Visually, the performance is striking ? musically, the performance is unmatched. All ages welcome! Age 21+ to drink/purchase adult beverages.

Let's be honest - does anyone actually like Thanksgiving turkey??? It's dry, it's stressful, and it's just there so your aunt can say, ''You really can't get turkey like this anywhere else.'' 🦃 We're skipping the bird entirely and going straight for the good stuff: the side dishes. Mashed potatoes, stuffing, mac & cheese, green been casserole that may or may not involve questionable cream-of-something soup - we want it ALL. 🦃 Bring your favorite side dish to share and join us for a pre-Thanksgiving feast that celebrates what really matters: carbs and passive aggressive recipe compliments. 📅 Date/Time: Saturday 11/22 📍 Stump City Brewing 🍺 Beer provided. Turkey not welcome. Stay tuned for more details - but maybe start practicing your ?Oh, this? It?s just something I threw together? face. See less
Rainbow Full of Sound, Dead Zep, Dark Side of the Rainbow at The Glove Theatre
This year, band founder and leader Waynard Scheller brings triple the fun ? with Rainbow Full of Sound, Dead Zep, and Dark Side of the Rainbow ? honoring and melding the music of The Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. It?s somewhat boggling to think of Jerry Garcia and Jimmy Page swapping riffs ? the beatific Buddha and the slashing, edgy Page. But as veteran player of Grateful Dead music Waynard Scheller noticed one night, the chords of the Dead anthem ?St. Stephen? merged seamlessly into ?Whole Lotta Love.? Then he sat down and found lots of pairs of songs that fit together. And thus was born ?Dead-Zep,? a new band formed from his Rainbow Full of Love to mash up the two repertoires. Last year, Waynard brought us Dead Zep. This year Waynard?s adding ? some pure Dead and Pink Floyd to the mix. What a treat we have in store for you! All ages welcome! 21+ to drink with valid ID See less
