Water Treatment Operator/Trainee
City of Amsterdam is seeking applicants for the position of Operator/Trainee at our Water Treatment Plant.

This is a two (2) year trainee position that requires the incumbent to complete the training and experience requirements to obtain a Type IIA Water Treatment Plant Operator certificate issued by the New York State Department of Health. This is required to become an operator. Incumbent operates and assists in a variety of plant equipment, machinery, laboratory tests and other relative to water filtration and treatment processes. The work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-level operator.
Typical Work Activities:
Incumbent are instructed in and assist in the performance of the following activities: operation, inspection, maintenance, repairs and adjustment of pumps, valves, motors, compressors and related plant equipment and machinery; variety of laboratory tests; backwashes filters and lines. Learns and assists operation of a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and primary logic controllers (PLC) of plant processes.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicant must possess a minimum of either:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma
A valid NYS driver’s license
Salary $23.34/hr. $48,546/yr. upon obtaining NYS IIA license $58,885. Plus benefits
