Distinguishing Features of the Class:
 Positions in this class supervise computer systems analysis and design, and application program development, systems testing, maintenance, and implementation. Supervise lower-level IT staff engaged in systems analysis and application program development activities. They define the scope of projects headed by Sr. Computer Programmer Analysts, establish detailed project plans, and set priorities within a multi-project environment. Data Processing Supervisors typically supervise two or more Computer Programmer Analysts. Typically works under the general direction of the Director of Data Processing. Will operate with a great deal of independence. Their work must conform to policy and technical standards set by agency and IRM top management. Supervisors may obtain technical advice from their supervisors, but usually rely on policy directives, professional standards, and agency and vendor technical manuals and procedural guides for direction. Supervisors may be expected to be available during off-shift hours to ensure the continuous operation of computer services.

Promotional Qualification: Must have completed six months permanent competitive service as a Senior Computer Programmer Analyst.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field including but not limited to business data programming, business systems analysis, computer accounting, computer and information systems, computer servicing technologies, information systems management, data processing or computer engineering and four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid computer programming experience in one or more programming or data base languages; or
B. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science or related field including but not limited to business data programming, business systems analysis, computer accounting, computer and information systems, computer servicing technologies, information systems management, data processing or computer engineering plus six (6) years experience as defined in A above; or
C. Eight (8) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as defined in A and B above; or
D. Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of A, B, and C above.
