2026 Winter Carnival with the City of Johnstown
Join us Saturday, March 7th at the Recreation Park on the corner of Briggs Street & Jansen Avenue for some LOCAL, FREE, WINTER FUN, right here in the City of Johnstown, New York! 🔥 Welcome Bonfire ? Kick off the ❄️ 2026 Winter Carnival 🎪 at noon and warm up anytime during the event. ⛸️ Ice Skating ? Our new rink is waiting for it's time to shine! Note: Please plan to bring your own equipment for ice skating. 🛷 Sledding Hill ? Who doesn't like sledding down a big pile of snow!?! We will have a handful of donated sleds but feel free to bring your own if you have them. 🎯 Outdoor Games ? Show us your aim with Snowball-Can-Smash and Garbage-Pail-Pong ? just to name a few! ⛄️ Snow Sculpture Gardens ? Come down early and build a snow sculpture ? this tradition started over 50 years ago and we?re bringing it back! We?re hoping for a nice upstate NY winter day with fresh snow ❄️, bluebird skies and lots of sunshine ☀️ ? Bring the family down or have the kids meet up with their friends and enjoy fresh air and good old? fashion FREE outdoor fun ? right here in the City of Johnstown, New York!

2026 Contest Starts Friday March 6th at 4pm through to Sunday March 8th until 4pm $40 Entry Fee Fishing judged by length. All Fish measured at ?Wally?s Driftwood Park, Vandenberg Point Road, Mayfield. Measuring station will be open from 7AM -4PM Sat & Sun. Prizes will be given at ?FUEL & FOOD? after 4PM on Sunday. Power Auger and other Prizes will be drawn after cash payouts. No Need to be present to win Power Auger. In case of a tie, first and second place will be added together and divided between the winners! Drawing for 2 Can-am ATV's Prizes: Walleye - 1st, $700 2nd, 500 3rd, $300 5th, $200 6th, $100 Trout - 1st, $300 2nd, $200 3rd, $150 4th, $100 5th, $75 6th, $50 Northern - 1st, $600 2nd, $400 3rd, $300 4th, $200 5th, $100 6th, $50 Perch - 1st, $400 2nd, $300 3rd, $200 4th, $100 5th, $75 6th, $50 Plus $50 to the longest non-game fish! ADK Fish & Piscivorous Birds - A Free Education Event at The Glove Theatre
A FREE All-Ages Education Event! @ 1pm - The Fly Shack will lead a fly tying demonstration @ 2pm - Lisa Holst will provide an historical overview of the fish communities of the Adirondacks and will profile some of the lesser known native fish species. She will also share information regarding the ongoing restoration of endangered ADK fish species, how the recovery of certain bird species is affecting fish and fisheries, and how piscivorous (fish eating) birds are affected by environmental contamination. This FREE all-ages event is brought to you through a partnership of The Glove Education Series and Southern Adirondack Audubon Society.

American Chestnut: History, Blight, Recovery at Landis Arboretum
Location: The Nicholas J. Juried Meeting House Registration: Arboretum members: individual $5, family $15; nonmembers: individual $15, family $25 American Chestnut: The story of one of the most important trees in American history. This plant is functionally extinct. Around 1904, a disease was introduced to the Chestnut that killed 3-4 billion trees from Georgia to Maine. Entire communities relied on this tree for their livelihood. This class will present the Chestnut history and its importance to society. The class will highlight the community and scientific efforts to restore the Chestnut in our region.   Samples of Chestnut leaves, fruits, and local places to see remaining Chestnut plants will be shared in class.
