Scandal and Spirits - the Rug City during the Roaring Twenties at Second Act Spirits
Speakeasies, scandalsm and shenanigans. Prohibition may have outlawed alcohol, but it didn't stop Amsterdam residents from finding ways to have fun. Join local historian Audrey Egelston for an evening exploring the people, places, and scandals that made the 1920s one of the most colorful decades in the city's history. From bootleggers and gambling rooms to police raids, vice, and headline-making mischief, discover what life was really like in the Rug City during the Roaring Twenties. Think you've heard all the Prohibition stories? Think again. While a few familiar faces may return, this program features new research, new scandals, and a broader look at the characters and events that kept Amsterdam buzzing throughout the decade. Returning guests can expect plenty of fresh material and previously untold local stories. Guests are encouraged (but not required!) to come dressed in their favorite 1920s-inspired attire. Whether you're channeling a flapper, a bootlegger, a businessman, or a newsboy, we'd love to see a little Roaring Twenties flair in the crowd. So grab a drink, dust off your suspenders or pearls, and step back to a time when the drinks were illegal, the headlines were wild, and Amsterdam knew how to have a good time. New Stories. New Scandals. More Rug City Shenanigans. History is better with a drink in hand.
