Remember the Ladies: Colonial Women and Revolutionary Commemoration at St. Patrick's Lodge
Join Johnson Hall State Historic Site and Old Fort Johnson on Saturday, March 15th as we celebrate Women?s History Month with Remember the Ladies: Colonial Women and Revolutionary Commemoration, exploring three Revolutionary-era women who shaped not only their own time, but who shaped how we remember that history today. The program will take place at St. Patrick?s Lodge No. 4, 22 North Perry Street, Johnstown NY, 12095, starting at 1:00pm. This afternoon of exciting historical information will feature presentations by experts in the fields of colonial women?s history and historical interpretation. Sandy Spector, a living-history educator and researcher, will share insights on her journey into the past and the work that goes into giving life to her interpretation of our nation?s First Lady, Martha Washington, whom she has interpreted for over a decade. Michele Gabrielson, history teacher and historical interpreter, will discuss the ?muse of the Revolution?, Mercy Otis Warren; one of the first female historians of the United States, who used her poetry, prose, and satirical whit to champion the Revolutionary cause. Jessie Serfilippi, lead interpreter at Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site, will explore the second half of Elizabeth (Eliza) Schuyler Hamilton?s life during which Eliza edited, curated, and shaped how history would remember her husband, and, ultimately, how we simultaneously remember, and fail to remember, Eliza herself. Attendees will learn both about the lives of these fascinating historical figures, and the presenters? work to explore and share those stories today. This free public program is made possible through the support of the Friends of Johnson Hall and the New York State OPRHP Interpretive Programs fund.
