Drum Circles at Landis Arboretum
Drumming is returning to Landis! Join us from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on the first and third Wednesdays of the month (June 4th and 18th, July 2nd and 16th, August 6th and 20th, and September 3th and 17th) We?ll be in or near the Peace Pavilion at Landis to drum with leader Art Teale. Art is a dedicated musician (his group is Waitin? on Bob) and a well-respected handyman in the area who welcomes seasoned drummers and newbies for a fun and relaxing experience. Please bring: A drum (or a plastic bucket that makes a nice sound when struck), or rhythm sticks or other rhythm instrument A chair or if you prefer, a lawn blanket to sit on Water (stay hydrated, people!) Nature writing is the opportunity to connect in new ways with the natural world. For centuries, writers have composed poems, stories, essays, and journals to explore, celebrate, and understand nature. Drumming is returning to Landis! Join us from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on the first and third Wednesdays of the month (June 4th and 18th, July 2nd and 16th, August 6th and 20th, and September 3th and 17th) We?ll be in or near the Peace Pavilion at Landis to drum with leader Art Teale. Sirsy is an indie pop/rock duo, from NY, with LOTS of heart, soul, & sass! The Boston Globe calls them ''the little band with the BIG sound''. Sirsy is made up of 2 multi-instrumentalists: singer-songwriter & drummer Melanie Krahmer and her cowriter/husband and guitarist Rich Libutti. Mel also plays piano, flute, and bass on a keyboard with her drumstick. At live shows, Rich plays bass on a pedal board with his feet. So, these two manage to sound like a full band, and despite their multitasking, do it all with big smiles on their faces. It?s clear they love what they do. And that love is contagious when you see them live. Sirsy's fans have supported them through Mel's 2 bouts with cancer, the pandemic (which was filled with free sirsy live streams), and their 8 records. It's clearly a labor of love for Sirsy and their fans. Their energetic show often includes stories from the road, laughter, dance parties, and even nerdy jokes. Come celebrate life with them!

The Insolent Willies are an upstate New York roots-rock band known for their hip-shaking mix of quirky, clever original music and unpredictable covers. Biriba Union Trio -Live Music at Sherman's Park
Borrowing its name from a Brazilian wild sugar-apple, Biribá Union features Mike Block (cello, vocals), Christylez Bacon (beatbox, guitar, rhymes) and Patricia Ligia (electric bass, vocals). The trio met through Silkroad?s Global Musician Workshop, initially bonding over their shared love of Brazilian music. They quickly began co-writing new music that draws on the freestyle theatrics of hip-hop and Go-go music; the effortless beauty of Brazilian forró and choro; the earthiness of American roots music, and the improvisational spontaneity of jazz. Mike Block is a Grammy Award-winning cellist, singer, and composer with a passion for cross-cultural collaboration. Hailed as ?one of the bravest, most intriguing musicians on the American fusion scene? (Gramophone), he has been a member of the Silkroad Ensemble for nearly twenty years and directs Silkroad?s Global Musician Workshop. Yo-Yo Ma calls Block ?the ideal musician for the 21st century,? saying, ?I?m always struck by his unique perspective on the world and his relaxed and confident approach; he takes on new music and new things fearlessly.? Christylez Bacon is a Grammy-nominated songwriter, storyteller, rapper, beatboxer, and guitarist from southeast Washington, DC. With a tall antenna and wide curiosity, Bacon loves exploring music in different cultural contexts and has collaborated with Hindustani, Arabic, and Brazilian musicians. He was the first hip-hop artist to be featured at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival and has composed for and performed with the National Symphony Orchestra and Princeton Symphony Orchestra. Patricia Ligia is an electric bass player and composer from Montevideo, Uruguay. In addition to playing in Colombian pop superstar Karol G?s touring band (with whom she has performed on Saturday Night Live, NPR?s Tiny Desk, The Today Show, and stadium shows around the world), Ligia is cofounder of Mestizas, a band that fuses flamenco and jazz with folkloric music from Latin America and the Caribbean. For her, Uruguayan culture makes it feel ?easy to be alive, spread joy, and share music.? Biribá Union makes a unique rhythmic cocktail with Bacon?s inner-city DC hip-hop and go-go rhythms entwined with Ligia?s subtropic bass lines. ?Everyone feels safe to switch roles and go to unknown places,? Ligia explains. Block agrees, saying, ?We all have a lot of room to breathe. We can each shapeshift yet magically never get in each other?s way.? Drumming is returning to Landis! Mr. Chair is a Madison-based dynamic and innovative ensemble composed of Jason Kutz (piano), Ben Ferris (bass) and Mike Koszewski (drums). The trio collaborates with singers, dancers, orchestras, string ensembles, poets and visual artists to pioneer exciting and distinct projects, showcasing their versatile style and interests in improvisational music. Over our 4-week Theatre Institute program our participants had fun, learned a lot, and worked together to create their own unique presentation of this pivotal piece that paved the way for the modern musical. Our students attended workshops with our teaching artists focused on: acting, music, choreography, wardrobe, tech, and more. They worked to cast the show -- and off they sailed into the deep blue for an exciting, fast-paced rehearsal process that put the power of storytelling into the capable hands of our participants -- guided by our professional cohort of collaborative theatre artists. You, our audience, is in for such a treat -- four unique live performances we share with friends, family and the community at large! Stained Glass Workshop with Doug Hallberg, Instructor at Paul Nigra Center
Join stained glass artisan Doug Hallberg for this 5-hour intensive mega-workshop on the craft of working with stained glass! Each student will learn about the process of this timeless art form and make two stained glass feathers to take home. This workshop is for students ages 16 and older of any experience level. A lunch break will be provided - you can bring your own lunch or plan to visit one of our local restaurants. A dvanced students are welcome to make a 12'' clear glass window hanging with bevels. Instructor Doug Hallberg is a retired NYS public school art educator (1996-2012) with an MFA from Rochester Institute of Technology. In 2012, he was awarded a New York State Enterprise grant to open Carriage House Art Studio in Oneonta, NY (2012-2018) to provide a variety of community classes, including some geared toward artists with special needs. Early Birding: A Birding Workshop for Kids! at Landis Arboretum
Kids will be introduced to proper binocular use, take a 30-45 minute birdwalk using technology (Merlin Bird ID app) and 'old school' field guides to identify birds, learn techniques and Pro Tips for finding and getting close to birds, and play a conservation/habitat game. Participants will receive a packet of birding trivia to take home. Maximum enrollment of ten children, ages 7 to 10 (second through fourth grade); a minimum of five enrollees required or the class will be cancelled. The 5th Annual Trust Your Gut Summer Academy proudly presents All That Glitters, a new, original musical written, composed, designed, and performed by the Youth of Fulton County! King Midas has it all. He rules the kingdom of Phrygia with his wife, Queen Marygold, and their loving daughter, Princess Cassandra. But, when the Queen suddenly passes away, Midas is driven to greed, jealously keeping his gold for himself. When Dionysus, the god of wine, revelry, and (of course) theatre, offers to grant him a wish on the eve of his daughter's 18th birthday, Midas is given the ''golden touch''...but will he use it wisely? Or will this gift become a curse? Throughout the TYGP Summer Academy, our Rising Stars have been trained in acting, singing, dance, voice and speech, vocal technique and performance, design, writing, music composition, and more. Our dedicated team of professional, working performing artists has guided them through the process of discovering their inner artist, working together, having fun, and, most importantly of all, trusting their gut! King Midas has it all. He rules the kingdom of Phrygia with his wife, Queen Marygold, and their loving daughter, Princess Cassandra. But, when the Queen suddenly passes away, Midas is driven to greed, jealously keeping his gold for himself. Programs will take place at the Nigra Arts Center?s facility at 2736 State Highway 30, Gloversville, NY. Important Kids' Art Program Information: ? All kids ages 5-12 are welcome to attend. ? Openings in the Nigra Arts Center Kids' Art Programs are very limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. ? All children must be signed in and signed out by a parent/guardian. ? There will be no refunds or exchanges for any of the programs unless the Nigra Arts Center cancels. ? Payment is due in full at the time of registration. Payment secures your child?s spot in the program. ? All programs will run daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Kids can be dropped off up to 15 minutes early or picked up 15 minutes late free of charge. Outside of the 15-minute grace period, we charge an additional $15 per 15 minutes need to pick up or drop off. Kids can be dropped off no earlier than 7:45 a.m. and picked up no later than 5 p.m. If you are dropping your kids off early or picking them up late, please call (518) 661-9932 to let us know in advance so we can schedule staffing. ?
