SUMMARY:Free Art Open House at Schine Memorial Hall
DESCRIPTION:The Memorial Hall Cultural and Arts Center will host its second free art open house from 4-6 pm Friday\, Oct. 17 at the newly renovated art space on the third floor of Schine Memorial Hall\, 40 N. Main St\, near the Glove Theater.\n\nThe organization hosted its first open house Sept. 19 with a free lesson in drawing an apple in chalk pastel.\n\nThe Oct. 17 "Spooky Art Open House" will feature two main activities: a free lesson in drawing and shading an iconic image of Frankenstein and a craft where children 3 and up can build and decorate a paper haunted house. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.\n\nThe Frankenstein drawing lesson will be offered to adults and children 9 and up at 4:15\, 4:45 and 5:15 p.m. It will be based on the face of the monster portrayed by Boris Karloff in the 1931 film\, Frankenstein. Participants can choose to follow the guided lesson from scratch or with a half-face template to assist them.\n\nLight refreshments will be available at the open house\, as well as Halloween treats while supplies last.\n\nReservations for the lesson are appreciated to ensure adequate supplies. To participate\, please call or text art instructor Cheryl Bielli at 518-752-9696 or cherylbielli@yahoo.com.\n\nThe third-floor art space at Schine Memorial Hall\, as well as renovated restrooms\, a small kitchen and a large room to be used for a museum\, were made possible in part by a grant to improve downtown Gloversville. The new space will be available for rentals.\n\nThose attending the open house should enter Memorial Hall through the entrance by the Storto Gloves display window.
